Biomass GHG Calculator — RED — gCO₂e/MJ and Savings vs Fossil Fuel

Select a product and enter the supply chain data, including production energy, transport and terminal operations. The calculator will calculate the emissions intensity in gCO₂e/MJ, convert it into kgCO₂e/MWh, and show the percentage of GHG savings compared with the fossil fuel reference value. The result is indicative — audit-ready values require confirmation of source data in accordance with the methodology of the relevant certification system.

Calculates emission intensity in gCO₂e/MJ, converts it to kgCO₂e/MWh and shows savings vs fossil fuel. Life-cycle methodology based on the RED-style approach, with stages added together.

Default LHV and moisture values can be adjusted in the configuration.
Affects “per tonne” conversions in the table.
Default: 94 gCO₂e/MJ, often used as a regulatory reference value.
DMT = t(AR) × (1 − M). Example: M=10% → 1 t AR = 0.90 DMT.
If your methodology uses LHV on a dry basis, a separate AR/Dry switch can be added.
The gCO₂e/MJ result is independent of volume, but the table will show values for the whole batch.
Enter your own value, such as grid mix or GO. This strongly affects pellet production calculations.
Indicative value; audit calculations should use factors required by the applicable methodology/system.
Enter energy consumption “per tonne” (AR). If a stage is not applicable, leave 0.
If drying uses gas/oil, enter the energy here. In this MVP it is calculated as “diesel-equivalent” with a separate factor in the configuration.
Transport emissions are calculated using average tonne-kilometre (tkm) factors. Audit factors may differ.
e.g. plant → port/terminal
e.g. terminal → terminal/receiver
If imported, enter NM. For domestic supply, enter 0.
Port + inland terminal = 2
Allowance for reachstacker / gantry crane operations, averaged.
Tip: if you need thresholds, such as 70/80/xx%, an “installation type” and commissioning-date switch can be added.

Disclaimer: This calculator is intended for quick estimation. For audit-ready calculations, emission factors, allocation rules and the scope of stages must follow the applicable system methodology, such as KZR INiG / ISCC / SURE, and verification rules.
